Rudy Mikeska's has been fortunate to have been written about in many print articles and publications. We are featured in this book titled "Texas Barbecue" by Paris Permenter & John Bigley. It lists the best barbecue cooks in Texas along with great recipes. I was asked to publish our cole slaw recipes. My father always liked good cole slaw and said it was very important as a side dish to our barbecue buffets. Congratulations Keith, Holly and Alyssa Vanecek!

If you read my Family's story in the "Family Tradition" page of this website, then you would have read about my 1st. cousins Benny and Michael Vanecek. They are both highly respected McDonalds owners/operators in El Paso and DFW areas. Recently Mike's son Keith Vanecek purchased his own store located in Arlington Texas. Keith and his wonderful wife, Holly, have a beautiful daughter named Alyssa.
You will never meet anyone nicer than Keith's parents....Mike & JoBeth. They are not only my kin, they are also my friends. Keith's sister Laura is also involved with the many stores the family operates. They all have the drive and determination required to make a successful business and more importantly.... a great family!

Keith has alot to be thankful for.

Matt Maddox

A recent tragedy in New Mexico took the life of a friend of the Vanecek and Mikeska families. Matt Maddox was a close friend to Benny and Machelle and Mike and JoBeth. I had the pleasure of knowing Matt when we hunted as a family in Llano county. We had also gambled in Las Vegas together and played golf together. He was a very talented young man and his death is too soon. We send our sincere condolences and prayers to his family in El Paso.

Bosnia Update

Everything is still on for our Texas Bar-B-Q in Bosnia. I leave July 1st from Austin.
1st stop.......... Andrews AFB in Maryland (pick up a Major General)
then on to .......Gander Newfoundland, Canada
then on to.......Shannon, Ireland
......................Arrive in Frankfurt Germany, Ramstein AFB
Then I plan on SLEEPING !!
The next morning we depart for Bosnia at 9:00 am
Arrive at Tuzla, Bosnia and start COOKING !!!
July 4th.......... Texas Bar-B-Q and Military Band Concert
July 5th...........Depart Tuzla for Germany
July 6th...........9:00 am depart Germany for Reykjavik, Iceland
.......................then Gander Newfoundland, Canada
.......................drop off the General at Andrews AFB Maryland
July 6th...........Arrive in Austin, Texas
